Strict Curfew across Kashmir on Friday

SRINAGAR: Authorities in India Kashmir have extended a rigid curfew to most parts of the disputed Himalayan region in an attempt to prevent anti-India protests in the region's main city.
There has been under a rolling curfew and strikes for nearly a month after the killing of popular militant commander Burhan Wani sparked massive anti-India demonstrations.

'Killing the truth' in Kashmir

Local journalists have been beaten and prevented from covering recent unrest in Indian-administered Kashmir. More than 100 people have died since June during clashes between security forces and anti-government protesters in some of the bloodiest scenes the disputed state has seen in years.

Day 4:31 dead, 1300 hurt in Kashmir

Srinagar:- At least 31 people have died and more than 1,000 injured in spiralling violence in Jammu and Kashmir following Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani’s death last Friday with Prime Minister Narendra Modi summoning a meeting on Tuesday to review the volatile situation in the valley.
Union home minister Rajnath Singh, defence minister Manohar Parrikar and other senior officials attended the meeting to discuss ways to end the protests that have paralysed normal life amid curfew-like restrictions and a separatists-sponsored strike.
The PM, who returned from his four-nation five-day tour of Africa on Tuesday, was given a detailed presentation on the situation in the valley.
MoS Jitendra Singh said the prime minister has been keeping a close watch on the sequence of events and has made an appeal to maintain peace.
“PM Modi has made an appeal to maintain peace and calm in the valley. PM has extended every possible help to the state,” Singh said.
Mounting death toll
According to independent sources and local newspapers, nine more people, including a woman and a teenager, succumbed to their injuries on Monday.

Probe torture by Bush:HRW demands

Washington: -Human Rights Watch has called on the United States to investigate torture by CIA during the administration of former President George W. Bush.

The rights group named 21 US officials “who created, authorized, and implemented the CIA program” in its Tuesday report, saying they should “be among those investigated for conspiracy to torture as well as other crimes.”

Woman lashed for working, cellphones

PESHAWAR: The militant outfit Lashkar-e-Islam lashed a woman for working in the fields in Spin Drand area in Tirah valley and has imposed a ban on use of cell phones by women, reports reaching here said on Sunday.
